There are many things to look after before you move out of your house and into your new home:
Prepare a list of friends, relatives, comapnies, etc. with whom you have done business. Get "Change of Address" cards from the Post Office and send to everyone on the list.
Arrange with gas and electric utilities to have meters read on the appropriate date.
If you have oil heating, instruct your heating oil supplier to fill the oil tank before your sale transaction closes.
If your water heater is rented, arrange for transfer of the rental agreement.
Advise your water-softener, telephone and cable TV suppliers regarding the sale arrangements. Cancel pre-authorized cheques issued for contracted services.
Notify home service suppliers (newspapers, diaper delivery, etc.) of service changes.
Arrange servicing of all appliances for the move.
Notify magazine, record and book club, insurance and credit card companies, department store charge accounts, license bureaus, finance companies, stock brokers and accountants.
Arrange access to the keys for your new home.
Ensure safety and care of pets during move.
Discard all flammable liquids including gasoline used in lawn mowers and recreational motors.
