After the Sale Check List

There are many things to look after before you move out of your house and into your new home:

• Prepare a list of friends, relatives, comapnies, etc. with whom you have done business. Get "Change of Address" cards from the Post Office and send to everyone on the list.
• Arrange with gas and electric utilities to have meters read on the appropriate date.
• If you have oil heating, instruct your heating oil supplier to fill the oil tank before your sale transaction closes.
• If your water heater is rented, arrange for transfer of the rental agreement.
• Advise your water-softener, telephone and cable TV suppliers regarding the sale arrangements. Cancel pre-authorized cheques issued for contracted services.
• Notify home service suppliers (newspapers, diaper delivery, etc.) of service changes.
• Arrange servicing of all appliances for the move.
• Notify magazine, record and book club, insurance and credit card companies, department store charge accounts, license bureaus, finance companies, stock brokers and accountants.
• Arrange access to the keys for your new home.
• Ensure safety and care of pets during move.
• Discard all flammable liquids including gasoline used in lawn mowers and recreational motors.
